MENTOR SERIES ☆ 1 ☆ GATEWAY TO THE SOUL

Welcome to our first episode of Articles of a Mentor – a conversation with my son, Matias Dusil, where we discuss the ideas, experiences, and life lessons behind the articles I have written over the past 25 years. This series gives me the opportunity to look beyond what was written on the page and reflect on how my perspectives were shaped by my journey as a photographer and creativist.

In this first episode, we explore Gateway to the Soul, the article that launched my Dusil Photography blog and introduced the philosophy that continues to guide my work today. My photography has never been simply about capturing a model’s physical appearance; my deeper purpose has always been to capture her spirit, her emotions, and her unique essence. The camera lens, for me, is a gateway to the eyes, and the eyes are a gateway to the soul.

Throughout our conversation, we discussed the foundations of my approach to nude art photography—the importance of trust, empathy, and genuine human connection. Creating meaningful images requires more than technical skill; it requires a model to feel safe enough to reveal a vulnerable and authentic part of herself. These moments of mutual trust, creativity, and emotional honesty are what transform a photograph from a simple image into something timeless and meaningful.
