I’m a firm believer in a Mind • Body balance. I treat both as a muscle, knowing full well that they’ll atrophy if we don’t use them.
Growing up I was taught the importance of staying in shape. As early as six years old my father would ask me to stand in front of our TV in the living room and ask me to flex my muscles. This became a reoccurring theme. It even played out when friends and cousins would visit and we’d have judo tournaments and arm wrestling contests. On a few occasions, I even watched my dad, a second-degree black belt, in judo competitions with friends – not at the dojo but in our backyard! This was my world.
Valuing strength and conditioning helped me to appreciate the spirit of competition. With veterinarian parents, I also value intelligence and learned leadership skills through observation. My mother wasn’t only a veterinarian, she was also an accomplished artist. I grew up surrounded by hundreds of beautiful oil paintings and would proudly show them off to any visitor who was interested. My sister inherited our mother’s creative talents and dialed it to eleven!

These days my soul is fulfilled through fine arts photography and peripheral creative outlets like graphic design, motion graphics, and creative writing. This helps maintain my Mind • Body equilibrium.
But none of this mattered when I was six years old. Back then, all I cared about – while flexing my muscles as hard as possible – was to impress my dad.
